The South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership began when a group of clergy from area congregations, decided they could do greater ministry if they worked together. In 1970 they incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with several types of services offered.
Our efforts are currently focused on the Food Closet which provides emergency food for nearly 3500 individuals monthly. Our clients include single parent families, welfare recipients, homeless and a large working poor population. We dispense food to people of varied ethnic backgrounds who live within seven zip codes of the south Sacramento area.
A food package for one person is sufficient to feed them three meals for three days, with caloric and protein balance considered. When you multiply that by the number of family members in the household, you can see how much food is needed. Our clients are allowed to receive assistance from us once per month and we maintain a database to track their visits. Identification (birth certificates, SSN, etc) for all family members and proof of residence (utility bills) within our zip code areas are required to be shown each time they visit.
