Volunteering at SSIP Food Closet Fighting hunger and building community
Help those in need
Volunteers are essential to the SSIP Food Closet. Without them, we could not exist. When you volunteer with us, you are contributing to the effort to combat hunger and help ensure that everyone has access to healthy food. To serve over 250 individuals and families a day, five days a week, takes a village. As a volunteer, you will work with individuals from nearly all walks of life to make a difference in the lives of those who are unsure if they will have the next meal.
Give back and build connections
Volunteering with SSIP Food Closet can help you build connections within your community. You will work with other volunteers and staff members who are passionate about aiding others. By working with individuals experiencing food insecurity, you can gain a better understanding of their struggles, which may help you develop increased compassion and empathy towards all individuals, beyond food insecurity.
Help the environment
Volunteering at a food bank not only benefits people in need but also helps the environment. America has a significant problem with food waste, and we play a crucial role in decreasing the amount of edible food that goes to waste. You can help contribute to the reduction of food waste and promote sustainability.
Volunteer!
We welcome volunteers of all experience levels and backgrounds to help us with the many aspects of food distribution. You can:
· Drive vans to pick up food donations from grocery partners
· Bag food for distribution and carrying food to clients
· Check in clients at registration
· Serve on our support teams that further the mission
· Maintain the facilities and grounds
Email volunteers@ssipfoodcloset.org with your interests and needs. We will get back to you with how you can begin to fight food insecurity and build community.
